Auditions and Video Requirements
The programs at Elevate are designed for dancers between the ages of 11 and 18 who wish to increase their artistic and technical skills and/or pursue a professional career in dance.
Our programs are geared towards developing dancers with a wide range of technical skills and artistic sensibility, preparing them for the vast range of performance, choreography, and teaching opportunities available to them in today’s dance field.
Artistic Criteria
Elevate recommends that students have a minimum of 2 to 4 years of consistent dance training in ballet and recent training in modern or jazz in order to be a seriously considered candidate for acceptance. Criteria for acceptance vary, depending on the structure, curriculum and requirements of each program. The audition panel decides if the programs are appropriate for each applicant upon viewing of the video. Decisions are emailed to applicants within 1 to 2 weeks of the audition video being received.
We are looking for:
- An advanced to intermediate level training in ballet, jazz and modern
- A toned, flexible and strong body
- A demonstrated sense of musicality
- A desire to explore the artistry and esthetics of movement
- A commitment to developing technical skills
- A willingness to enhance one’s sense of discipline
Attire
Dancers should be dressed in neat, professional looking dance attire (i.e. leotard and tights for women; tee shirt and tights for men). Women’s hair should be neat and pulled back away from the face and neck.
Material
Videos should include a solo no longer than 3 minutes in either Ballet, Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary or Jazz techniques. Dancers can also include 5 minutes of an additional style to the solo, i.e. Solo piece in Modern with a Ballet Barre, Centre Work and/or Enchainment.
We ask that your video submission be no longer than 10 minutes total.
Please have the dancer indicate their name, age (by July 2023), height, city of residence and how many years they have studied dance.
